if a star were only a ball of flame
would you wish upon it anyway
till your loved ones home came?

if a beach were but a stretch of sand
would you run across it with the breeze in your hair
and wish the calm would never end?

if a tear were nothing but saltwater
would you tenderly wipe it away
as it trickled down the cheek of another?

if a mountain were just a tall hill
would you aspire to climb it still
from where you were to see the wondrous view?

if a dream were but a child-like fantasy
would you chase yours till fruition
against all odds and difficulties?

if a moonbeam were only a shaft of light
would you promise your lover the world
under its soft glow at midnight?

if a hug were just a mere touch
would your arms linger on your friend's shoulders
to give comfort in times of sorrow much?

if a diamond were but a stone
would you appreciate its multi-faceted brilliance
as it dazzled in the light of dawn?

if everyone were convinced God is just a fabrication
would you stil have faith in the existence of the Almighty
or credit science for all creation?

if a person were only a sentient creature
would you look beyond the surface
to see the heart that portrays character?

if love were but an illusion
overrated by romanticists and novelists
would you allow it to blossom unhindered
and cherish it nevertheless?

if you could start now to be grateful
for the blessings in your life...
would you?
